Parkersburg Waste & Recycling does take all residential waste placed at the curb; however, please keep the following in mind.

  • If the container is larger than 30 gallons, the refuse must be bagged. The container or bag should not weigh more than 45 lbs.
  • Sharps/needles must be disposed of in a plastic jug or bottle with a lid. The filled jug must then be disposed of in your trash, NOT the recycle bin.
  • A maximum of 10 tires per year per household can be brought to the Collection Center with proper ID and proof of payment of sanitation bill.
  • Bulky items, such as furniture, appliances, and electronics may be set on the curb with your trash. A box truck will come around after your trash pickup to collect these large items.
Parkersburg Waste & Recycling cannot take car batteries, motor oil, or wet paint. Please click here to see ways to dispose of these items.

Recycling Pickup

The City of Parkersburg operates one of the largest municipal Recycling Centers in West Virginia. The pickup of recycling materials coincides with your regular trash pickup schedule.

Recycling materials may also be dropped off at the collection center.

Alert!
Sanitation & Recycling Schedule Changes: Effective March 4, 2024 In our ongoing efforts to streamline operations and enhance the quality of service we provide to our community, the Division of Waste and Recycling has decided to adjust the pickup schedule. Starting the week of Monday, March 4, 2024, we will be moving Friday pickups to Thursday.

This change aims to improve efficiency in waste collection and recycling processes, allowing us to better serve you and maintain a cleaner and healthier environment for our city. We understand that changes in routines can be an adjustment, but we believe that this modification will contribute to a more effective and sustainable waste management system.

Here are the key details of the updated pickup schedule:
▶️ Trash & Recycling Collection: Monday through Thursday
▶️ New Pickup Day for Friday: Thursdays

Because of this change, we will now offer expanded hours for waste and recycling collections Monday through Thursday. Starting at 4:00 am, our team will be working diligently to ensure that pickups are completed promptly. We ask that all city residents have trash and recycling out to the curb by 4:00 am to ensure an orderly pickup. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we implement these changes for the overall benefit of our city.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this schedule adjustment, please feel free to reach out to our Division of Waste and Recycling office at (304) 424-8570. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to maintain the beauty and cleanliness of Parkersburg.
